Welcome to DC, young Cardinals! As you take your fledgling flights into our wonderful city, you might be wondering about all those red bikes you see your fellow Washingtonians riding!

Here in DC, we have a bikeshare program that provides bikes for members to use around the city. It’s called Capital Bikeshare, and there’s a bike station right on CUA’s campus near the Brookland-CUA metro station. The bikes are reasonably priced and easy to ride. Whether you’re headed to an internship downtown or a walk through the lovely Rock Creek Park, Capital Bikeshare has stations close to your destination. Biking in DC is a great alternative to public transportation, particularly given that CUA is right near the developing Metro Branch Trail.

What, you may ask, does this have to do with an app called Spotcycle?

Capital Bikeshare bikes are limited to 30 minutes free per ride for members. So, to best use the bikes, you want to make sure that your destination has open docks. That’s where Spotcycle comes in. Once you tell Spotcycle your city, all the Capital Bikeshare stations will load right on a map and show you how many docks are available. If you’re trying to make plans for a trip by bike, Spotcycle will tell you how many bikes are currently available at each station. That way, you can make sure that you’re headed to a station with bikes, or you can make alternate plans.

With Spotcycle, you’ll never be disappointed by an empty station, and you’ll never desperately rush to another station for an open dock. Spotcycle makes Capital Bikeshare easy and fun!

Remember Capital Bikeshare and Spotcycle for your green transportation needs!
